Chitradurga to get water under ‘Neeru Bhagya’

Proposal ofRs. 305 cr. has been submitted to the State government

G.H. Tippareddy, MLA, has stated that a proposal of Rs. 305 crore had been submitted to the State government for providing drinking water facility to the city under the ‘Neeru Bhagya’ scheme.

Addressing reporters here on Tuesday, he stated that under the scheme, drinking water would be supplied round-the-clock and the scheme had been planned keeping in view the population of the city by 2048.

Maintenance

After the systematic completion of the project, the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board would look after its maintenance for a period of 10 years. “As per the survey, the population of the city would be around 4.88 lakh and daily requirement of water per person would be around 135 litres. “Based on that survey the proposal had been prepared and submitted to the State government,” he added.

The scheme was being implemented in three phases in the State. In the first phase it would be implemented in Chitradurga, Koppal, Bagalkot, Vijayapura and Chamrajnagar. In the second phase, it would be implemented in Ramnagar, Chikkaballapur, Madikere and Mandya cities and in third phase it would be implemented in Devanhalli, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Karwar and Kolar cities, he said.

While implementing the scheme in Chitradurga, there are plans to include more than 18 villages near the city limits including M.K. Hatti, Medehalli, Pillakeranhalli, Kodaiahnahatti, Malappanhatti, Kavadigarahatti, Garehatti, Madakaripura, Vidyanagara, Taralabalu Nagar, Bank Colony, Ishwar extension, Basaveshwar nagar, Agasarhalli, Kunchignal, Mallapur and Gounur. Zilla Panchayat Member D Ramesh and KUWSSB officers Hanumantappa and Ravishankar were present.
