Twenty-five years is a long journey, particularly when in pursuit of social causes. And, The Shakti Foundation has been working on projects that extend medical help to the rural underprivileged and create a barrier-free environment for the physically challenged. Every year through their annual music show, the Foundation helps not just to raise money for its various initiatives but also awareness about social issues. This year’s concert Gurusarana will feature four well-known musicians who will explore different genres to present diverse sounds.
Well-known singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan’s (part of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy) album Breathless catapulted him to fame. Many of his Hindi film songs have been topping the charts. As part of Gurusarana, he will render compositions that blend the classical and the contemporary.
Stephen Devassy, an ace keyboardist, as part of different music ensembles has been experimenting with notes and presenting a repertoire that appeals to new-age listeners.
Son of legendary Kathak artiste Sitara Devi, Ranjit Barot’s drumming skills have made him a favourite with even international fusion groups. He travels the world over, exploring eastern and western music sensibilities with his percussion play.
Violinist and composer Balabhaskar is as comfortable with classical as he is with fusion projects. He will lend the melody aspect to Gurusarana with his strings that will bring alive traditional flavours with a touch of the contemporary.
The performance will be held at The Music Academy on February 14 (7 p.m.). For tickets and other details call 97898 23761, 96001 74057 or 97910 31463.
