How did the incident come to light?
The incident came to light when a woman who was at the Sheesha Sky Lounge with five of her friends on Sunday evening. She spotted the phone kept in the toilet under a wash basin, opposite the commode.
Who spotted the mobile phone?
The accused, Garibnath Mohit Ram, had been working in the lounge for the past two and a half months. He hailed from Bihar. Ramesh Khadtare, senior PI of Amboli police, said, "The phone was stuck using an adhesive tape with the video recording mode turned on. The woman spotted an object at around 9pm under the basin and immediately removed it. She saw the video mode on and saw objectionable clips of other women in it."
What did the woman do?
The woman informed her friends about the incident and they alerted other customers and staff in the lounge, said the police. After sometime, the group of friends approached the police. "We reached the spot immediately and started questioning the management. Meanwhile, one of the housekeeping staff was missing from the lounge. The management suspected him to be part of this and summoned the staffer. We immediately took him to custody," said an officer.
What did the accused say?
Upon further questioning, Ram confessed to the crime. He said he had placed the phone in the toilet on Sunday afternoon. "We are trying to find out if he had shot obscene videos in this manner in the past as well. Investigations are on," said Khadtare. The accused has been arrested under sections 354 (c) (Voyeurism) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
