Students win first place in Robowars competition as part of Shastra 2015, technical festival conducted by IIT, Madras

Robots designed by a team from the Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology in Puducherry were deemed the best. It got the students first place in the Robowars competition, held as part of Shastra 2015, the technical festival conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.

The students, V. Seshathiri, Infant Raj, Naveen Kumar, V. Vignesh and Arun Kumar were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 30,000. According to a note from the institution, the robots had to fight and break the opponent robot. The students said the powerful motor and the technology they used were the key in winning the top place. The students have been working on the technology for three years, said the note.

Catching up with new trends in CA

Students were updated on the latest developments in accountancy at the two day CA students conference, ‘Mei Porul Kanbathu Arivu’ organised by the Puducherry branch of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and Puducherry branch of the Students Association of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (SICASA) held in Puducherry recently.

The conference was attended by 225 students from Puducherry and surrounding areas like Neyveli, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Chennai, Madurai, Salem and Karur. Eminent Chartered Accountants and medical professionals addressed the students, said a release from the organisers.

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, who inaugurated the conference, encouraged students to take up chartered accountancy as there was a shortage of CA professionals in India. He also assured of the government’s support in strengthening infrastructure of the ICAI in Puducherry. Sixteen students pursuing their CA course presented papers on topics in the fields of Direct and Indirect Taxation, Company Law, Accounting and Auditing. The programme was attended by PR. Aruloli, Southern India Regional Council (SIRC) ICAI member, MS Ravichandran, chairman of Puducherry branch of SICASA and Vijaykumar N. Modi, Chairman of the Puducherry branch of SIRC.

Top honours in Taekwondo

Men from the Achariya College of Engineering Technology and women from the Bharatidasan Government College for Women took the top honours at the Taekwondo competition organised as part of the intercollegiate tournament of the Pondicherry University on January 22. A total of 150 students from 20 colleges affiliated to the Pondicherry University took part in the competition.
