Yet another incident of hurling country-made bomb was reported at the coastal hamlet of Kooththenkuzhi in the district, on Monday as a youth hurled the improvised explosive device at his rival’s house.
However, no one was injured as the bomb did not explode.
Police said fisherman Vino of Kooththenkuzhi had a land dispute with one Valan, also a fisherman, for the past several years.
As altercation between the two, who are members of rival groups in the village, erupted on Monday morning, Vino hurled the country bomb on the house of Valan.
Based on the complaint from Valan, the Kudankulam police arrested Vino.
The village is witnessing clashes between these groups during which country-made bombs were being frequently used. The explosives were stockpiled in secluded places, the police said.
When one of the warring groups, on being driven out of Kooththenkuzhi, stocked bombs at Tsunami Colony near Idinthakarai, it went off accidentally and claimed eight lives few months back. Subsequently, the police conducted raids in places around Kooththenkuzhi
The latest incident has proved that the coastal hamlet still has a good number of country bombs.
