Silchar: A Dimasa militant was lynched by villagers of Tingkroo in Maibang sub-division of Dima Hasao district, 160 km from Haflong. Two other rebels were critically wounded in the incident.
An eight-year-old boy, identified as Motong Langthasam, was also injured when a stray bullet fired by a fleeing militant hit his leg. He was admitted to Maibang Civil Hospital.
A senior police official said a group of four armed militants belonging to Dima Hasao National Army (DHNA) raided the remote village at 3.30 pm on Sunday when the villagers were observing Busu Dima, a major festival of the Dimasas.
Sources said when the rebels started torturing a few persons, other villagers managed to catch hold of the militants. They lynched one, while two others were critically injured.
The militant who got killed has been identified as Bishwant Sengung alias Bhaiti Dimasa.
The injured are Digvijay Daolagupu and Kamalasan Haflongbar. They were also sent to hospital in a critical condition.
