The accused played with the victim like a toy. All nine of them raped her one after another and eventually killed her because she had learnt their names and had threatened to expose them once out of their confinement,” said officials from the Haryana Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT), which cracked the case.

The probe also exposed the shoddy approach of Haryana Police officials. The 28-yr-old victim was raped and subsequently murdered within 10-12 kilometres of her sister’s home, from where she went missing. The accused abducted her from the road at around 6.45 pm on February 1, when a missing complaint was filed. They raped her in turns for about three hours, before finally killing her and throwing the body in the fields.

The SIT sources revealed that the woman was first spotted walking on Rohtak-Hisar road by one of the accused Sunil aka Sheela, who runs a small teashop near a bus stop on the highway. Another accused Subhash, a Nepali man, worked at the same shop.  “Both of them spotted the woman and took her on their motorbike to a secluded room in the nearby fields. They first violated her and then Sheela called the rest of the accused, all of whom are known to each other. Others including Rajesh, Sarvar, Manbir, Sunil aka Maadha, Pawan, Sombir, Pramod aka Padam also reached the spot,” a source revealed.

“It took the others about 20-30 minutes to reach the shed. All of them consumed alcohol and started raping the woman one after another. All of them addressed each other by names. All are residents of village Gaddakheri in Rohtak district. After raping her, they brought her back towards Rohtak city. They travelled about three-four kilometres, took her on the banks of a canal and assaulted her there. This was the moment, when she pleaded them to leave her. She even threatened to expose them once she reached home.
One of the accused, Sarvar aka Billu, got agitated and started assaulting her,” the SIT sources added.

“After she started screaming, they made her sit on the motorbike and again started towards the fields away from the highway. They stopped at a place where a wall was being constructed. Since she did not stop screaming, they made her get off the motorbike and pelted bricks at her. She collapsed on the spot. They finally dumped her at the spot from where the body was recovered,” the SIT sources disclosed.

Festive offer

The Haryana Police could not trace the missing woman till a villager spotted her body on February 4 morning and informed them.
