The Roads and Buildings Department will take up repairs to 5,135-km length roads under its purview soon with an estimated cost of Rs. 1,228 crore, R&B Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said.
Speaking after conducting a review meeting on Saturday, the Minister said that the length of State and national highways in Telangana after bifurcation was 26,986 km, including 2,592 km national highway. On the construction of roads connecting mandal to district headquarters, the Minister said that the Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, had already sanctioned Rs. 2,585 crore for laying 1,996-km length roads and they would be completed by May 2016.
He explained that the Chief Minister was also particular about widening the roads connecting the State capital from district centres. As part of the plan, four-lane roads would be developed between Suryapet and Khammam at a cost of Rs. 674 crore and Dichpally and Nizamabad at a cost of Rs. 100 crore.
On the congested and dilapidated bridges across rivers Krishna, Godavari and their tributaries, Mr. Nageswara Rao said 349 such bridges would be reconstructed at a cost of Rs. 1,974 crore.
About the Chief Minister’s plan to construct ring roads around Warangal, Khammam, Nizamabad and Gajwel, the R&B Minister said administrative sanction was already given in case of Gajwel with Rs. 30 crore. The roads leading to bathing ghats on the banks of Godavari in Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Warangal and Khammam would be spruced up with Rs. 265 crore to facilitate pilgrims’ journey without any inconvenience, he stated.
Under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), works with Rs. 634 crore were sanctioned, including 88 bridges and 442-km length roads. New bridges were planned to connect Nalgonda-Guntur at Matampally, Mahabubnagar-Kurnool at Kollapur, Nizamabad-Adilabad at Panchagudi and Karimnagar-Adilabad with Rs. 403 crore, the Minister explained.
To increase the length of national highways in Telangana, the Chief Minister has requested the Centre to sanction 1,081-km roads connecting Hyderabad-Yellareddy-Bhainsa, Hyderabad-Moinabad-Chevella-Kodangal, Kodada-Miryalaguda-
