Woman seeks CBI probe into husband’s death

The Madras High Court has ordered notice on a writ petition by a woman of Mettur taluk in Salem district seeking a CBI probe into the killing of her husband allegedly by forest officials in Karnataka in October last year.

Justice T.S.Sivagnanam said the notice would be returnable by March 3.

The petitioner said her husband Palani, a fisherman, used to fish in the Cauvery. On October 21, Palani was shot at. There were signs of torture on his body. Hence, the assailants were liable to be prosecuted under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the IPC. She had preferred a complaint. A case had been registered by Malaimatheswaran temple police station in Karnataka.

The investigation was not conducted fairly. Hence, the present petition to transfer the probe to the CBI.
