District Collector K.V. Ramana told officials on Saturday to submit a comprehensive action plan within a week to curb road accidents by thoroughly inspecting the accident-prone areas.

Addressing the District-level Road Accident Prevention Committee meeting in his chambers, he told Transco Superintending Engineer Subba Raju to remove electric poles from the midst of the roads at Vinayaknagar and Krishna circle in Kadapa town and shift electrical transformers that occupied part of the roads in Proddatur town. Auto-rickshaw parking must be regulated as they were being parked on the road near Chennur bus stand in Kadapa, he said.

Mr. Ramana told Panchayat Raj officials to undertake a survey of approach roads and speed breaker works and submit a report on funds required. He directed steps to ensure that flower vendors did not encroach on to the road near Kadapa old bus stand.

Two-wheeler riders must wear helmets while driving on national highways, Dr. Gulati said.
