HR panel orders probe into custodial death
State Human Rights Commission has ordered probe into alleged custodial death of a man at Bahraich’s Jarwal Road police station on Monday.
The commission issued notice to SP Bahraich on Saturday and asked him to appear before the commission within four weeks after taking action against SO Kapil Muni and other accused policemen.
Dinesh Kumar Singh was allegedly tortured to death at the police station on Monday.
The commission stated that the death in police custody is a violation of human rights.

A panel of three doctors had performed postmortem of Dinesh on Tuesday. Although strangulation mark and five other serious injuries were found on the body, police claimed he died of choking.
A resident of Bhartha Sahwajpur village under Kaiserganj police station, Dinesh was caught by Jarwal Road police on charges of stealing a bike and was subsequently found dead in police lockup. His family members had staged dharna at the police station.
A team of three doctors performed the postmortem on DM’s order and found deep marks of injuries on the back, stomach and head of the deceased alongwith strangulation mark on the neck.
The police had claimed that choking is the cause of the death.
