Four re-converted under Ghar Vapsi

Hindu Munnani ceremony in Coimbatore

In a first Ghar Vapsi programme reported from Coimbatore, four persons of a family, including two children, were re-converted to the Hindu faith at a ceremony conducted by the Hindu Munnani at Thudiyalur on Friday.

According to sources, around 60 Hindu Munnani volunteers from Kavundampalayam and Thudiyalur ‘re-converted’ Alwyn alias Ganesh, his mother Stella alias Santha, his daughter Angel alias Drishya and son Prasanth in front of a Ganesh idol near the Vritheeswarar Temple in Vada Madurai.

The sources said that the incident took place around 5.30 p.m. in the presence of police and 60 Hindu Munnani members, who were led by K. Bala, north district secretary. Police removed 40 of them.

Hindu Munnani members told The Hindu that around two years ago, the family, which migrated from Munnar to Chinna Thadagam in search of livelihood, was converted to Christianity. The family expressed the desire to return to Hindu faith after it “faced unpleasant” situation.

The sources said that Ganesh, a widower, worked as a lorry driver.

Case not registered

Coimbatore Rural Police said that they did not register a case but prevented the Hindu Munnani volunteers from entering the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments-managed temple. They also released the 40 volunteers they had detained.
