Dinesh Gundu Rao, the Minister in charge of the district, has directed officials to carry out a survey on the encroachment on government land, roads, and parking spaces in the district, with focus on Hubballi-Dharwad, and submit a report by February 20.
He told presspersons after a meeting here on Friday that the government would initiate action against the guilty based on the report.
Considering the extent of violation, the encroachments would be cleared in phases, he added.
Mr. Dinesh Gundu Rao said nearly 1,800 acres of government land had been encroached upon in the district and around 600 acres had been recovered.
The Hubballi-Dharwad Muncipal Corporation authorities have been asked to conduct a survey on parking space violation and encroachment on roads in the twin cities. Action would be taken after examining the report, the Minister said.
The district administration would spend Rs. 5 crore to improve the traffic in twin cities under Nagarothan project. The Police Department had sought time till March 30 to identify spots to install new traffic signals and lay medians, he said. The Hubballi-Dharwad Development Authority commissioner would submit observations on the comprehensive development plan before March 30.
Simplifying procedures
Meanwhile, Mr. Dinesh Gundu Rao said that the State government was taking up initiatives to further simplify procedures for permitting and promoting industries.
Addressing a gathering of entrepreneurs after the inauguration of ‘TiECon-2015’, organised by the Hubballi chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs, he reiterated that the government was committed to promoting industrial development.
Mr. Dinesh Gundu Rao said that development would be possible when industrialists made collective efforts and joined hands with the government.
He said that the comprehensive development plan for the twin cities would be ready in five months and initiating steps for development would be much easier then.
The Minister clarified that the differences in the policies of the Union and State governments would not come in the way of industrial development.
Pralhad Joshi, MP, referred to the gas pipeline that would pass via the twin cities. He said the twin cities had a great scope for development as they fall in the midst of the Bengaluru-Mumbai Industrial Corridor.
Hubballi-Dharwad West MLA Aravind Bellad said that there was scope for developing the twin cities as a knowledge and manufacturing hub.
