Warehouses of four sugar mills locked

Warehouses of four sugar mills in the district were locked on Friday after they failed to pay dues to growers.

According to official sources, warehouses of Shree Renuka Sugar factory in Munoli in Savadatti taluk and Raibag, Ghataprabha Saharakara Sakkare Karkhane in Gokak and Laila Sugars Ltd., in Khanapur have been locked as per the direction of the Director of Sugar. The managements of these mills had paid Rs. 2,200 a tonne of sugarcane to growers for the 2013-14 crushing season. They had promised to pay another Rs.100 a tonne before January 20 but failed to implement their assurance. Notices were issued to these factories before locking their warehouses, the sources added.
