Two Indians held over ‘terror links’ in Saudi

According to reports, there are 32 Saudi and six Yemen nationals among those who have been detained.

India has approached Saudi Arabia after two Indians were detained in Riyadh for alleged terror links, a senior government official said. In an anti-terror drive conducted in Saudi Arabia last month, 42 people were detained for various terrorist activities, which also included two persons from India.

“Through appropriate channels we have got in touch with Saudi authorities. What we have been told is that the two men have been detained as of now for suspected terror links. We have asked them for more details,” said a senior government official. The anti-terrorist drive was carried out in Saudi Arabia from January 12-25.

When asked if the detained Indians could have any links with al-Qaeda or Islamic State (IS), the government official said, “Nothing can be ruled out for now. But first we will have to get more details, we have started a background check on the two men.”

The official refused to identify the suspects, saying the operation was still on.

Festive offer

In 2012, Saudi Arabia deported Zabiuddin Ansari, alias Abu Jundal, wanted in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks to India. Saudi authorities had also deported an alleged Indian Mujahideen operative Fasih Mehmood, wanted for the 2010 Bangalore blast case.
