MARGAO: Former PWD minister Churchill Alemao on Friday criticized the recent ordinance issued by the state government regarding the forthcoming zilla panchayat polls being carried out on party lines.
Alemao termed this as a wrong decision that would divide the people on party affiliations.
The former Congressman, who had unsuccessfully contested the last Lok Sabha polls as a Trinamool Congress candidate, urged the voters to reject those contesting on party symbols and instead opt for independent candidates with a good track record of having served the people.

The former CM also strongly condemned the recent incidents of the various attacks on the churches in Delhi and voiced his immense displeasure about minorities being targeted in a secular democratic India that is presently displaying a trend of rising communal conflagrations. “This will not augur for a peaceful Goa that still boasts of communal harmony,” he said.
