Chennai-based firm gets radio taxi licence
NEW DELHI: A Chennai-based firm, NTL, has been approved for a radio taxi licence under the modified scheme. The company is the first one to get the licence after the scheme was reworked.
Officials in the Delhi transport department said NTL runs a radio taxi service in Chennai. "The licence has been given after all the documentation was verified. The company fulfilled all the points on our checklist," an official said.
Other companies which had applied for the licence include Ola cabs, Uber and TaxiForSure. However, the process for licence approval for these companies is still underway, the official said.
After the December incident, when a Delhi woman was allegedly raped by the driver of an Uber cab, all app-based taxi service companies were banned from operating in Delhi.
Last week, the applications for a licence by Ola, Uber and TaxiforSure were not processed as certain documentation was missing. These companies had been sent deficiency memos by the transport department, though officials said the applications were not been rejected.
