HYDERABAD: Unidentified persons damaged the car of Sunitha Krishnan, a well-known social activist near Charminar in Old City on Friday morning. According to the activist, the incident was triggered as she had posted photographs of some ‘rapists’ on the internet.
Sunitha Krishnan, anti-human trafficking activist and chief functionary of the NGO Prajwala, reported to the police that she had parked her Safari car outside her office, and after a few minutes, was informed that the rear windscreen has been smashed.
Cops have registered a case under section 427 of the IPC (Damage caused by mischief).
Sunitha told the media later that she had uploaded photos of six persons who had raped two girls in two different incidents. “In both the cases, the offenders got this heinous act videographed and went to the extent of uploading it on WhatsApp. I was alerted about these shocking videos by a friend," Sunitha said.
“I posted the videos on two social networking sites with the headline ‘He is a rapist, Help us Trace Him,’ on Thursday afternoon. I suspect that the attack on my car is linked to this,” she said.
According to her, the two rape incidents were not local. “While one of the video appears to be from Rajasthan based on the conversation of the offenders, the other one is either from Odisha or Assam. I do not know who in Hyderabad is offended by my uploading these images. I want to make it clear to them that I will not be cowed down by such attacks,” she said.
Sunitha said she is going to Delhi on Monday to lodge a formal complaint with the Union home ministry and seek their help in tracking down the rapists seen in the videos.
Meanwhile, assistant commissioner of police (Charminar) Ashok Chakrawarthy said clues team has collected the samples. “At the scene of the offence, there were no CCTV cameras. We spoke to the locals but no one had any clue except Yousuf, a banana vendor, who said he heard a sound. The vendor alerted the watchman of the NGO who in turn informed Sunitha. We are on the job of tracing the culprits,” the ACP said.
