ZF Friedrichshafen AG, the international transmission geniuses, have inaugurated a new production plant at Chakan, Pune, a result of an investment of 150 crores (20 million euros). This plant further reinforces their commitment to the future growth potential of the Indian market.
Spread over an area of 85,000 square metres (21 acres), the plant was inaugurated on the day of ZF’s 100 year anniversary. The inauguration ceremony was attended by several members of the senior management, including Wilhelm Rehm, Board Member of ZF and Global Head of material management, Rudi von Meister, ZF’s President of Asia-Pacific and Piyush Munot, India Managing Director.
The company first made its presence felt in Pune back in 2010 when they introduced high performance transmissions, and chassis components both for commercial vehicles and passenger cars. Their presence in India goes back to nearly three decades of association with the Indian market. The company has 8 plants in India in the cities of Pune, Pantnagar, Gurgaon, Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai and they currently have a headcount of 3,000 employees.
The new facility will enhance their existing production portfolio by launching passenger car clutch systems which have been specially designed to suit the Indian driving conditions. It will also serve as the headquarters of the after-market sales and services, engineering and administration of ZF India Pvt Ltd
