MYSURU: "Merely celebrating Sri Shivayogi Siddarameshwara Jayanthi won't serve any purpose. We should follow his principles in our daily life," said mayor Lingappa. The state government is mulling about coming up with a Bovi Development Corporation in the forthcoming state budget.
Speaking after inaugurating the fifth Sri Siddarameshwara Jayanti celebration organized by the district administration in association with Sri Shivayogi Siddarameshwara Bovi Community Action Committee at Kalamandira here on Thursday, Lingappa said, "Siddarameshwara Swamiji of the 12th century treated all members of the community equally.
Among thousands of vachanas, he has contributed nearly 1,878 of them. He also conducted hundreds of mass marriages for needy people and created hundreds of lakes and wells for the welfare of the people. He also showed the way to the downtrodden. He not only has followers across the state but also in Maharashtra."
The mayor was overwhelmed by the people's response. The auditorium was jam-packed for the celebration which is rare for any event.
GV Seetharam, secretary of the committee, said, "Community members met chief minister Siddaramaiah recently and he assured them that the Bovi Development Corporation would find a mention in the budget. In Mysuru and Chamarajanagar, more than 1 lakh people belong to this community who comes under the Schedule Tribe category."
Prasaranga director Naganna briefed the audience about Shivayogi Siddarameshwara Swamiji's principles and contribution.
As part of the celebration, a procession consisting of various cultural troupes was flagged off in front of Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple and passed through many thoroughfares before culminating at Kalamandira. Deputy commissioner C Shikha, ZP CEO PA Gopal, MUDA commissioner Palaiah, MUDA chairman Mohan and other district officials were present.
