Many celebrities joined tens of thousands of fans early on Thursday morning to watch the ‘first day, first show’ of actor Ajith Kumar’s latest release, Yennai Arindhaal .

Fans of Ajith descended on single-screen theatres in the city, which are traditionally known for allowing them to celebrate the release with much fanfare.

At Kasi Theatre in Ashok Nagar, actor Arun Vijay, who plays the antagonist in the film, came to watch the 5 a.m. show. After the show, fans enthusiastically applauded and cheered an overwhelmed Arun, who broke down.

Later in the day, actor Silambarasan, a die-hard fan of Ajith Kumar, caused a controversy with his comments online. After watching the film in a theatre in the suburbs, he tweeted, “After a very long time Oru Nalla Thamizh Padam #YennaiArindhaal. Except people who are mentally ill, Tamil cinema audience will love it.”

The Twitterverse’s outrage at his comments took the form a ‘get well soon’ hashtag, which soon began trending.

Music composer Anirudh Ravichander had also watched the movie with Silambarasan.

The producer of the film, A.M. Ratnam was also seen at Kasi Theatre in the morning.

Jyothika all set for a comeback

After a hiatus of nearly nine years, actor Jyothika will be seen on silver screen soon. She recently finished shooting for the yet-to-be-titled Tamil remake of the Malayalam film ‘How old are you?’

After her marriage, Jyothika has so far only acted in only a few television ad-films. Sources say the film was shot for over 45 days, predominantly in and around Chennai.

The crew shot scenes of Jyothika in busy areas of Mylapore, Kodambakkam and T.Nagar. Scenes involving the protagonist meeting the President of India were shot in Delhi for five days. The last shot was taken in Sholinganallur.

Produced by actor Suriya’s home banner 2D Entertainment, the film also has actor Rahman playing a key role.
