Vivekananda Chair at Sanskrit varsity soon

February 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - Kochi:

The Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit in Kalady will soon establish a Chair on Swami Vivekananda for initiating studies and research in Indian culture and history.

A meeting of the expert committee by the University Grants Commission (UGC) on January 5 recommended the varsity’s name, among four other universities, to institute the Chair.

Proposal

The varsity had submitted a proposal in this regard to the UGC on a direction from the Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani to vice chancellors of various Central and State varsities.

‘Empowering youth’

According to M.C. Dileep Kumar, the varsity’s Vice Chancellor, the new Chair will help expand the varsity’s objective to empower the youth through education with a global insight.

“The programmes to be offered under the Chair will be designed in such a way to promote disciplined and dedicated education while upholding the values advocated by Swami Vivekananda,” he said.
