Educational trust faces action for violating norms

February 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - KAKINADA:

The seizure of 14.01 acres from Shankara Educational Trust at Ramanayyapeta in the Kakianda Rural mandal by the Department of Endowments this week may be a precursor to possible action against Ashram Public School, managed by the same foundation.

Sri Vishnu Sevasramam owns 32 acres near Nagamalli Thota junction where the Ashram Public School was established in 1985 by Shankara Educational Trust. Meanwhile, violation of norms by the trust was being reported time and again. The trust uses 14.01 acres for running a ‘Gosala’, which is monitored by Sree Peetham, a religious organisation.

With Kakinada witnessing rapid development, land value has gone up tremendously. According to rough estimates, the land owned by Vishnu Sevasramam Trust is worh around Rs. 600 crore.

Following the general elections, the BJP has been demanding that the Endowments Department seize the land owned by the trust, as norms were being violated. Though the party leaders targeted Ashram Public School, officials seized the ‘Gosala’ spread in an extent of 14.01 acres a couple of days ago.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the development, former MLA Mootha Goapalakrishna wondered as to why officials had targeted the Gosala and did not act against the school management.
