The prefects of Sigatoka Methodist Primary School were reminded to play their roles well in the development of their classmates.

Member of Parliament Ashneel Sudhakar, who officiated at the event, said all students should follow the leadership path taken by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, International football stars Christiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, who are great leaders in their own rights.

“It is an important day for school as your new leaders will be chosen. Everyone is capable of being a leader, those who are chosen and those who are not,” Mr Sudhakar said.

“Roles and responsibilities of a leader are to protect, help, give justice and train future leaders. Don’t worry about detractors. A leader is strict but humble. Never get angry and keep away from favouritism.”

Mr Sudhakar said every child had the potential to become a great leader but it would require hard work, discipline and fitness of mind.

Muzzamil Soharat Ali and Anaseini Atani were inducted as headboy and headgirl.

Muzzamil said he was ready to take on the challenge for the year.

“I thank the teachers and parents for nominating us as prefects and head to be inducted on this special day,” he said.

“We know that this role comes with a strong responsibility. We should assist the teachers in carrying out our duty accordingly.”

They will be assisted by the deputy headboy Manoa Korovulavula and deputy headgirl Sheenal Ram.
