Gauri Murder Case: 3 days on, cops clueless as CM demands quick probe

Meanwhile, Gauri’s mother Tripta participated in a protest organised by Congress at Gandhi Pratima on Thursday demanding justice for her daughter. The police continue to question Gauri’s online friends based on the suspicion of her father, Shishir Srivastava, who said his daughter’s Facebook friends could be involved in the murder.

Gauri was a first-year student in the five year BA-LLB course at Ambedkar Law College on Rae Bareli Road. As the police questioned students, teachers and college administration on Wednesday, none of them claimed to know her very well.

The teachers said Gauri had taken admission late in the session (in November) and rarely came to the college. “She had joined late. Her examination forms were also filled at the last minute,” a teacher said. Gauri had also missed her first semester exam for Political Science on January after falling ill because of jaundice.

Anuj Yadav, Gauri’s classmate, said he had only seen her a few times during the exams held at Lucknow University’s new campus last month. “She was not a regular at the college. She rarely came. Classmates know little about her,” he said.

Lalit Kumar Srivastava, assistant professor at Ambedkar Law College, who had privately tutored Gauri said she went to college only four times. “She used to come to study at my house. She was like any other student going to college. Who knew this could happen to her?” said Srivastava.

Police investigation is still limited to the CCTV footage, which shows Gauri leaving on a motorcycle with a youth. ASP(West) Ajay Kumar said: “We have got some clues and they are being verified”.
