ALLAHABAD: Commenting on the gruesome murder of 19-year-old girl in Lucknow, member of UP State Commission for Women Sheila Chaturvedi waded into a controversy on Wednesday by stating that sometimes girls too commit mistake by befriending boys.
She said, “Kuch ladkiyon ki bhi galti hoti hai. Dosti karne se pehle unko sochna chaiye (Sometimes girls too make mistake.
They should think of repercussions before befriending boys).”
Dismembered body of a 19-year-old girl was found in SGPGI area in Lucknow on Tuesday. She was reportedly cut into pieces with a sharp-edged motorized chopper-like weapon while alive, sending shock waves in the state.

Later, while presiding over the review meet, Chaturvedi called police officials to adopt ‘sensitive approach’ while dealing with cases related to atrocities on women. She said that cases related to fairer sex needed special attention.
Altogether 13 complaints were placed before her, including five that had already been disposed of by the police. She disposed of four complaints on the spot and directed police to redress grievances of remaining four complainants on priority basis. The complainant women included those from Phaphamau, Soraon and Phulpur among others.
While talking to reporters, she said, “The chief minister has started helpline service for women and directed the commission to visit every city and redress grievances of women across the state. As part of this initiative, I have come to Allahabad while other members will go to other cities.”
