NAGPUR: The city police rattled by Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC’s) move to seal Yashodhara Nagar police station ‘on paper’ have paid up the tax not paid since 2006. The tax amount is Rs8.36 lakh.
Sources in Asi Nagar zone’s tax department said that NMC received a cheque from police on Tuesday morning. The paper on which the sealing action was mentioned was removed on Wednesday.
NMC had sealed the police station on Saturday for non-payment of tax.
When this news appeared in the media it became a major embarrassment for the top police officers and they immediately asked the estate wing to clear the dues.
The zone’s tax department on Wednesday sealed several properties for non-payment of property tax. The total tax due was Rs10 lakh. Twelve open plots in Tirupati Balaji housing cooperative society (Nara) were sealed for non-payment of Rs2.4 lakh tax. Sixteen plots in Eros society, eight plots in Preeti society, six plots in Ex-freedom fighters’ society and 20 plots in Sant Jagnade Society were also sealed.
Meanwhile, the tax department has organized a camp in Arya Resident I, Koradi Road (behind Koradi octroi post) for property tax assessment of new properties and mutation. The camp timings are 10am to 2pm.
