Having revived his father and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s dream project of Lion Safari at Etawah, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is now all set to revive Kannauj Mahotsava in his wife Dimple Yadav’s parliamentary constituency. The Mahotsav will be held after nine years.
It was first organised by Mulayam during his tenure as Chief Minister in 2004. Akhilesh was then the MP from Kannauj. The Mahotsava was given a grand-shape during next two years, was never organised after 2006.
The district administration has reportedly been put on task to ensure the success of the Mahotsava, which will be inaugurated by Akhilesh. Earlier, administration had decided to organise four-day Mahotsava from February 6, but could not get dates from the CM and some of the performing artistes. It has now been left to the CM to finalise the date.

“We did not want the Mahotsava to clash with Board examinations and also there was some problem with the dates of VVIPs. Thus, dates are yet to be finalised but most of the other arrangements are in place,” said Kannauj District Magistrate Anuj Kumar Jha.
The last edition of Mahotsava in 2006 was inaugurated by Akhilesh.
During the four day function, government plans to have several cultural programmes including qawalli and kavi sammelan besides live performances by other artistes, said an officer in the district administration.
