World Environment Day: Celebs think green
On World Environment Day, here’s what some Gujarat celebs do to save the environment.
Mansi Parekh Gohil:
I am extremely particular about saving electricity and water. I always switch off lights and fans when not in use, turn the ignition off in the car when I’m waiting, make sure that water doesn’t get wasted. I water my plants with whatever excess water there is in the house instead of throwing it away.
Aishwarya Majmudar:
I believe in a green world.
My entire family is extremely eco friendly. We have lots of trees in our backyard. And not just that! On every birthday I go to municipality schools to plant trees. I don’t believe in celebrating World Environment Day per say, I do what I can whenever possible.
Smit Patel:
I love planting trees. There are few better sights than watching a small plant grow up in front of your eyes! Also, I am very particular about not throwing trash on the road.

Pooja Gor:
I’m not entirely eco-friendly, but I try to consciously do my bit. I avoid using plastic bags and make sure I don’t litter. I have a recycle bin in my house in which I put paper and plastics and all things that can be recycled. There is a separate waste basket for garbage.
Harmeet Desai:
Even though we live in an apartment, we have a small garden and I take utmost care of the plants. Whenever I am home, I spend a lot of time at the garden and water the plants regularly. I also make it a point to never waste water.
Shrenu Parikh:
lI believe all of us should try to make a difference by doing those little things which eventually matter a lot. I always use dustbins and hate to see people throwing anything on the road. I never use plastic bags and turn off my car engine at the red signal.
Pooja Chaurushi:
l Unless I am travelling really far within the city, I make it a point to travel on my cycle. I also plant a lot of trees in the neighbourhood and whenever I talk to small kids, I tell them to respect nature. Else, nature will take its revenge on us!
A few tips to do your bit towards the environment:
Get organized
Always plan before you cook, so there are no leftovers. Organize your pantry, refrigerator and deep freezer so that you know what to buy and how much to buy. Every portion counts. Make a list when you go grocery shopping.
Get creative
If you do end up with leftovers, you could look up on the internet for some really exciting recipes.
A green thumb
Food that is beyond repair can always be used as compost for your plants.
Share your food
Sharing food is a great idea. You could pump up the feel-good-factor by donating some of your food to the less privileged. It could be a great ice-breaker to knowing your neighbours.
Insist on stopping waste
Be it your children or guests, there is no harm in getting people to stop wasting food. Insist that they finish all the food on their plates. During weddings and in restaurants, make sure you only take what you can eat. Multiple helpings are never a bad thing.
