Break-ups are not the end of life: Joywin Fernandes
Young filmmaker from Cortalim, Joywin Fernandes recently premiered his Konkani film 'Break-up' in Margao. Jubilant over the response the film has got, an elated Joywin says, “As the name suggests, this film is a story about a girl who goes through a break-up. The film shows how her close family rally around her and act as her emotional anchor.”
“I tried to show that break-ups are not the end of life.
They are just a beginning. Looking at the positive response the film has got, I feel the message I wanted to convey has gone straight to people’s heart.”
“I have experimented a lot in this film. It’s not a usual Konkani film. The choreography is eye catching. A lot of special effects have also been used. The highlight of the film is it’s music.”
The actors in the film have also won a word of appreciation from the audience. Did he follow any criteria while going about the auditions? “Many ask me this question. I never make movies for actors. I never compromise with the casting. I shortlist actors according to the story.”
Joywin has tried his hand at various aspects of film making — from editing, directing, scripting, producing to cinematography. He modestly says, “I usually make one film a year. I am a very lazy director as I shoot only two to three scenes a day till I am satisfied with the take.”
Why filmmaking as a career? “There is no business as show business. If I was not here, I would have been into journalism as I feel movie making and journalism are the only two platforms where you can share your thoughts easily.” He further adds, “I am a very shy person who likes to talk less but I never miss a chance to express my thoughts and my feelings through my films.”

There is no particular topic that captures Joywin’s interest. He has made eight films till date and all are different from each other. He says, “I make films on souls coming to life, friendship, piracy, extramarital affairs, love triangles etc. I make a film on anything that excites me. I like to surprise myself everytime.”
His films have had quite an impact. “After watching Piracy, someone called me and said he would never duplicate movies again. After my film Friends released, I got a call from a person who thanked me for the film. He said the film gave him the answers to his life. How much my film influences a person, is how I measure my success,” he says on a concluding note.
