On Tuesday, former Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa spent another quiet day at her Poes Garden residence here.

Out on bail, she paid floral tributes to the portrait of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai on his 46{+t}{+h}death anniversary. While she is not communicating to the outside world or even to her own partymen regularly, her voice reached out to several thousands of voters in the Srirangam constituency through mobile phone.

Thousands of subscribers of at least two telecom majors in the State also got to hear a pre-recorded voice seeking votes.

“As per Amma’s advice and guidance we are reaching out to the voters of Srirangam using mobile technology and ICT based campaign,” says Aspire K. Swaminathan, AIADMK’s IT wing head.

According to party sources, efforts would be taken to spread Ms. Jayalalithaa’s message to the Srirangam voters through four lakh mobile numbers in operation in the constituency at least thrice before the by-poll.

Incidentally, the Srirangam by-poll has been necessitated as she was disqualified from the Assembly after her conviction in a disproportionate assets case. To attract the young voters, the party is sending WhatsApp messages highlighting welfare schemes implemented in the past three-and-half years in the constituency. To woo the other voters, voice technology was being used, sources said.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and senior partymen paid tributes to late Annadurai at his memorial here.
