Mullaperiyar water level down

The Mullaperiyar water level has fallen considerably with Tamil Nadu discharging increased quantity of water. As per the estimate on Tuesday, the water level was 116.5 ft where as the inflow was 45 cubic ft per second. Tamil Nadu is drawing water at 665 cubic ft per second, as per an estimate of the Tamil Nadu Public Works Department.

Water is being released through one of the four penstock pipes and through the Erachipalam canal to help irrigate farmlands in the Cumbom valley.

The water level in the Vaigai dam, where water from the Mullaperiyar dam is stored, is also down to 33 ft.
