February 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - KOTTAYAM:

The Kera Gramam Project being implemented by the State government will be a game changer for the coconut sector that is reeling under adversities, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.

Inaugurating the launch of the project in the three grama panchayats of Pampady, Kootoppada and Meenadom under Pampady Block Panchayat, Mr. Chandy said women would have a pivotal role in making the initiative a big success.

According to him, neera production has already started impacting the coconut sector. “In Palakkad, coconut farmers make a monthly income of up to Rs. 3,000 per coconut tree through neera production,” he said.
