Bank branch inaugurated

Collector M. Ravikumar inaugurated a branch of Central Bank of India at Puthiyamputhur near here in the presence of S. Asaithambi, Regional Manager, recently.

While addressing the gathering, the Collector appealed to the bankers to extend loans to the needy, especially the economically weaker section, to ensure their livelihoods. Cattle loan should also be given to the needy. Subsidy loans should be given to the beneficiaries under government schemes. He said people could avail themselves of subsidised loans under Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme of NABARD. Mr. Asaithambi said 56 branches of the bank were being functional in nine districts under Madurai Division, which maintained savings deposits to the tune of Rs. 1,300 crore, and extended loans to the tune of Rs. 2,200 crore.
