Elangovan joins Delhi campaign

Ever since he was appointed TNCC chief, Elangovan has crossed swords with Chidambaram and his son Karti more than once.

Unfazed by the controversy his veiled attack on P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram has triggered, Tamil Nadu Congress chief E V K S Elangovan Sunday joined the campaign trail in Delhi.

Elangovan said he has already explained to Congress president Sonia Gandhi that his comments after Jayanti Natarajan’s exit from the party were not aimed at Chidambaram. Elangovan’s remark that if one more person and his heir too decide to leave the Congress the party would grow stronger was seen as an apparent reference to Chidambaram and his son.

An upset Chidambaram reportedly met Rahul Gandhi Saturday. Elangovan, who campaigned in Wazirpur area Sunday, said he has not been summoned by the leadership. He, however, admitted he has given an explaination to the Congress president. He has said his comments are being interpreted out of context.

“My comments were not aimed at Chidambaram or his son. It was a general statement that there are some people who are working to weaken the party and if such people decide to leave, the party will grow strong,” he told The Indian Express. He did not meet either Sonia or Rahul Sunday.

Ever since he was appointed TNCC chief, Elangovan has crossed swords with Chidambaram and his son Karti more than once. Recently, he issued a show-cause notice to Karti for what he called criticism of the party and praise of PM Narendra Modi. Karti declined to reply arguing only the high command can seek an explanation from him.
