In Yennai Arindhaal, the ace Tamil comedian has a top-notch role

Actor Vivekh, who once ruled the roost in Tamil cinema as a star comedian, is back with a clutch of films, including the highly anticipated Yennai Arindhaal, where he has teamed up with filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon after a decade.

Their last film was Minnale, which incidentally was Gautham’s directorial debut. On his collaboration with the ace filmmaker, Vivekh told Mirror: “When Gautham and I worked in Minnale, I was 13 years younger. He was so tense back then and would ride a bike to the shooting spot. In Yennai Arindhaal, Gautham handled things maturely but his love and affection still remains the same. And he drives an Audi now.”

Not much has changed about Gautham, admits Vivekh, who always wished to work with the former and wondered why he didn’t approach him post-Minnale. But that’s not true because Gautham wanted Vivekh for the role originally played by VTV Ganesh in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, a runaway hit.

“I missed doing that role as I was busy with some other projects. But Ganesh made a tremendous mark with the role and I’m happy for him,” said Vivekh, who continues to wonder if Gautham really had him in mind for the role. But the comedian is happy to have worked with Menon and Ajith in Yennai Arindhaal, which is slated for release later this week. In the film, he says, he plays a character that’ll make audiences laugh as well as think. “I play this character that changes with situation. He’s mischievous as well as serious.“ Vivekh and Ajith have come together after Kadhal Mannan, Alwar and Kireedam. “Ajith is a great friend and a talented actor. I’ve played his friend in several films and if I were to pick a role that’s close to my heart, it definitely has to be the one in Yennai Arindhaal,” he said. Ajith plays a responsible police officer in the film, which also features Trisha Krishnan and Anushka Shetty in the lead roles. Vivekh hopes Yennai Arindhaal, which is an important film in his career, revives his waning career with a bevy of offers. Not long ago, he was busy working in about 20 films in a year, but in the last three years, he starred in only 13 films. Vivekh is extremely happy with the way he has been received by fans even before the release of Yennai Arindhaal. “Ajith’s fans have already showered so much love,“ he said. Vivekh is also awaiting the release of Aishwarya Dhanush-directed Vai Raja Vai.
