Ghana and Guinea face off in the quarter-finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations at the Nuevo Estadio de Malabo on Sunday.

The Black Stars have done pretty well in the competition so far, reaching the knockout stages of the tournament after topping Group C.

Although they started off their campaign with a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Senegal, they went on to top their group following back-to-back victories against Algeria (1-0) and South Africa (2-1).

However, Ghana boss Avram Grant despite saying that his side possess a "lot of talent", insists that the tournament cannot be taken for granted.

"I can say there is a lot of talent here, very, very good players, quality in [sic] the highest level," said the former Chelsea boss, according to BBC News. "The quality of the players is good; the quality of the games is good also. There have been many, many good games, which in a tournament you cannot take for granted."

The Black Stars have had some bad luck in penalty shootouts, losing to Uruguay in the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup and Burkina Faso in the semi-finals of the 2013 African Nations Cup.

But Grant says that Ghana are preparing themselves for "everything", insisting that they are not thinking about the "past."

"We need to prepare ourselves for everything. I don't want to look in the past. I have some experience of penalties," Grant added.

"We need to think about all possibilities, but I suggest not to take [sic] the past as a fact. There are things in the past that were not so good, so we try to improve them."

Meanwhile, Guinea will also be hoping to get a positive result against Ghana despite having not registered a single win in the competition so far.

In spite of only managing a 1-1 draw in all their group fixtures against Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Mali, they still managed to qualify for the knockout phase thanks to Lady Luck being on their side.

As Mali and Guinea were tied on points (3 each) as well as goal difference after recording three draws apiece (all 1-1) in the group stages, drawing of lots was required for the first time in the competition since 1988, which led to Guinea progressing to the quarter-finals.

Guinea head coach Michel Dussuyer despite admitting that "there was a great explosion of joy" in their camp after they found out they had gone through to the next round felt that it was a little harsh for Mali to get eliminated from the competition in this fashion.

"When we found out it was us, there was a great explosion of joy. But, of course, I had a thought for the Malians," Dussuyer told BBC.

"It is tough, because they also deserved to go through. They missed a penalty against us and then they go out on a drawing of lots. Luck was on our side. But if we have got to the quarter-finals it is because we deserved to somewhere."
