Aam Aadmi Party leaders on Saturday approached the Election Commission citing apprehension about discrepancies in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
Party leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Ashutosh met Election Commission officials and requested them to acquaint them with the procedure a voter has to follow in case he or she finds such a discrepancy in a voting machine.
“A delegation of the Aam Aadmi Party led by former Delhi chief minister and party convenor Arvind Kejriwal met the Election Commission on Saturday and submitted a letter seeking awareness for the voters and officials on duty in case of malfunctioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs),” said the party in a statement.
“They told us that if a voter observes that he pressed the button of Party A and the bulb lit against Party B’s name, they should bring it to notice of the officers on duty,” Mr. Kejriwal said after coming out of the meeting.
He later said that if the machine was found to be faulty, it had to be sealed and replaced, and if required re-polling had to be held on particular booth.
The EC told the AAP delegation that it has put in place a foolproof mechanism to ensure that the EVMs function properly and there is no scope for any apprehension.
