West Ham have blundered their way into a row with FIFA over Diafra Sakho, writes Neil Moxley in the Sunday People .

The Hammers were instructed not to select striker Sakho for Saturday’s clash with Liverpool amid reports that his homeland, Senegal, had reported them to the global game’s governing body .

Sakho was ruled out of the currently ongoing Africa Cup of Nations with a back injury, but then played for the Londoners - scoring the winner in an FA Cup fourth round win at Bristol City last Sunday .

FIFA rules state a player cannot play for a club if he was meant to be on international duty - and the African nation are clearly unhappy.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce said: “Sakho was not in our team because of the situation we are in with FIFA.

“While it’s happening, it’s not conducive to pick him. We’ll look at that as quickly as possible.

“If you speak to the lad, he’s just concerned about being denied the opportunity to play football. But it’s the rules and regulations. It’s sensible to do the right thing until it’s resolved.

“It was a recommendation that we shouldn’t pick him.”
