The Congress on Saturday attacked both the BJP and the AAP for ignoring the concerns of government employees in Delhi.

Addressing government employees and party workers in Mehar Chand market, Congress campaign committee chief Ajay Maken said the Gujarat government had sent a letter to the Centre in December 2013 “opposing” the Seventh Pay Commission.

“That was Chief Minister Modi opposing benefits to government employees. How do we know he will not oppose this as Prime Minister?” Maken said.

The letter — sent from the Gujarat government’s finance department — stated that the implementation of the seventh pay commission would cause substantial financial burden for the state.

Stating that “government employees are the instruments that are essential to the functioning of any government,” Maken said the BJP government is seeking to achieve Modi’s slogan of “maximum governance minimum government” by “reducing the number of government employees”.

Festive offer

Speaking on the Lokpal issue, he said Kejriwal wants all government employees to be under its purview, but the Lokpal proposed by the Congress states that officials above the level of joint-secretary be under its purview.

“If ministers and senior officers are honest, all those under them will also be honest. However, Kejriwal believes that all government employees are corrupt,” Maken said.
