Hartlepool win pleases Moore

Hartlepool manager Ronnie Moore hailed his players after a "massive" 3-2 win over Plymouth.

A Jonathan Franks brace and a third from Scott Fenwick proved enough for Pools at Victoria Park despite a tense finish to the match as Argyle pulled back to within one in stoppage time soon after Kelvin Mellor felt he had been fouled in the penalty area. It meant back-to-back home wins for a Pools side now seven points adrift of safety at the bottom of League Two. Moore said: "This was a massive win. "We were good first half and it was always going to be a right game and we were hanging on at the end. "But I've got to praise (the players) for their effort, commitment and attitude. "We went in front, it's not often we've been in the lead. "But then we conceded a sloppy goal, got in front again and then had massive fortune with the penalty they didn't get. "The dressing room was a bit upset because of other results but don't worry about other results because other teams will see our result and have a panic on." Argyle boss John Sheridan was left angry with his side's performance, as the Pilgrims' winless run reached seven league games. They went behind in the eighth minute through Franks' close range finish before Ryan Brunt equalised for the visitors on the half-hour mark. Further goals from Franks and Fenwick made it 3-1 before sub Olly Lee scored for Argyle four minutes into added time. Sheridan, who is close friends with Moore, said: "It's very disappointing. "You just can't give goals away like that - it's ridiculous and changed the game. "We changed formation to go 4-4-2 and put Brunt up top to give us more attacking options. "First half and there was nothing between the teams. "We gave a poor goal away and were on the back foot, then got one back. "I've told the players in the dressing room what I thought but I won't name names."
