CM wants Gujarat as 1st state to provid KCC to all farmers

Gandhinagar

Gujarat Chief Minister Mrs. Anandiben Patel today said that the state government is determined to cover all the farmers under the Kishan Credit Card (KCC).

Mrs. Patel urged the officials of the nationalized banks, NABARD and Co-operative banks in Gujarat to employ all efforts so that Gujarat wins the honour of becoming the first state in the country that has distributed the KCC to 100 % farmers before the forthcoming festival of Rath Yatra.

The Chief Minister stated this while addressing the State Credit Seminar organized by the National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development (NABARD) for the rural-agriculture branches of the nationalized and cooperative banks located in Gujarat.

The Chief Minister had emphasized to adopt an attitude that the applications for the KCC from the small farmers, who are engaged in key sectors of the rural economy like agriculture, animal husbandry and poultry farmings, should be cleared on priority basis within the purview of the framed rules and regulations so that they don’t face any hitch.

Lauding the key role played by the cooperative banks, despite of having very limited number of branches, in providing the KCC to 14-lakh farmers of Gujarat, Mrs. Patel suggested that with a view to promptly provide the KCC to the farmers, the nationalized banks should chalk out a Target Oriented Action Plan that be implemented through their over 8,000 rural branches.

She also suggested that banks should adopt an approach of “Mass-Banking” so that benefits are reaching to the last common man of the society.

Speaking on the occasion, Gujarat finance minister Mr. Saurabhbhai Patel said, the banks should focus on common men, marginal farmers and traders as their targeted beneficiaries and should adopt a working strategy accordingly.

Those who graced the seminar included, Chief Secretary Mr. D. J. Pandian, additional chief secretary (finance) Mr. J. N. Singh, RBI’s regional director Mr. Sahu, NABARD’s Chief General Manager (Gujarat Region) Mr. Mudgal and other leading personalities of the banking industries.
