After giving birth to three girls, woman kills them all

She first drowned two-month-old twins in tub and then jumped in the well along with third daughter.

Days after the Prime Minister launched the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign comes the shocking piece of news from Pune’s Kusegaon village where a woman, frustrated after giving birth to third girl child, committed suicide after killing all her three daughters.

The incident came to light on Saturday morning after the dead body of the woman and one of her daughters (two and half year old) was found in a well in Kusegaon which is in Daund taluka of Pune district.

The bodies of two other daughters, who are twins and barely two- month-old, were also found in a tub inside their house.

Police have identified the woman as Vaishali Umesh Mokashi (24). Prima-facie, the police suspect that Vaishali committed suicide because she felt frustrated after giving birth to three girl childs.

Police said that Vaishali is a native of Kusegaon in Daund taluka. She married farmer Umesh Mokashi of Bhivadi in Purandar taluka of Pune district in 2009. She first gave birth to a girl named Ishwari alias Mallika, who was now about two and a half years old.

Police said she had come to her maternal home in Padvi-vasti in Kusegaon, for second delivery a few months back. About two months back she gave birth to twin girls. Police said that sometime before 11 am on Saturday, Vaishali first killed the twin girls by drowning them in a tub full of water in her house. She then held another her daughter Ishwari and jumped into a well located near by. Her dead body was recovered along with Iswari’s from the well around 11 am on Saturday. Police said there was no suicide note found. An accidental death case has been registered with the Daund police station.

Police said further investigation is on to confirm why she took the drastic step. Police said that she may have committed suicide when her parents were not present in the house.

Investigation by the police so far revealed that she was “upset” after giving birth to the twin girls. Additional superintendent of police Ravindrasinha Pardeshi said, “Primary investigation revealed she was not happy after giving birth to twin girls. But it is too early to come to any conclusion.” Police said they were also trying to find out whether there was any pressure on her from the family after the birth of the girls.
