Days after Sujatha Singh was removed as the foreign secretary, the Government late on Saturday replaced secretaries in the Urban Development Ministry and Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation due to poor performance, a source said.

Shankar Agarwal, who had been appointed Secretary, Urban Development Ministry has been replaced by Madhusudan Prasad, who was earlier Special Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce.

Prasad is a 1981-batch IAS officer.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu were not happy with the progress of work under the current secretaries," the source told Business Line.

In the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Allevation (HUPA), the Secretary Anita Agnihotri has been transferred to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Nandita Chatterjee, earlier the Secretary of National Commission for Women, will now take charge as Secretary, HUPA.
