GURDASPUR – An 18-year-old girl was found strangled to death on Wednesday in a hotel in the busy Civil lines area. Sources said she had an altercation with a man in his thirties, who concealed his identity at the time of booking. The deceased was a native of Naushera Bahadur village on the Gurdaspu-Mukerian road, 6 km from here. A case has been registered with the Gurdaspur police station. A hunt has been launched to nab the murderer.

Gurpreet Singh Toor, SSP, reached the crime site and started investigations. He said a man, addressed as JP Mishra in the hotel register, was behind the murder. “We are working on several clues and have sent teams to the Amritsar, Batala and Jalandhar railway stations. I am sure the man gave a false name,” he said.

A senior police officer said the suspect worked in a woollen mill in Ludhiana.
