Tata Motors To Repackage Its Nano To Improve Sales

By Ajinkya

Tata Motors had launched its Nano hatchback with a strong vision and goal behind it. They targeted it earlier as a cheap vehicle, which did not sit well with people planning of buying it. The Indian manufacturer then re-positioned its product as an offering for youth as well as for buyers who want to upgrade from their motorcycles.

Overall the Nano is an excellent product, however, the same has not reflected in the sales figures. Many believed that since the automobile giant is talking about moving into the future with new products, they may contemplate on ending the production of Nano.

The launch of Bolt and Amaze has also affected Nano sales. Tata Motors has witnessed buyers opting for their new products over their older models. The sales team, however, is planning of repackaging the Nano in an all new avatar to attract more city buyers.

They had last year launched the Twist version of Nano. Tata Motors plan on introducing several other elements to its hatchback to make it a smart city tool. One popular upgrade will be the rear openable boot door, which is not offered currently.

Tata Motors engineers will not meddle with the Nano engine:

A petrol powered 624cc, two cylinder MPFI engine is planted in the Nano. This compact engine produces 37 bhp, along with 51 Nm of peak torque output. The engine is paired to a 4-speed manual gearbox and the manufacturer claims a fuel efficiency figure of 25.4 kpl.

Nano could also sport an AMT option thus, making it a more comfortable drive within city confines. We will have to wait and see what all Tata Motors add to make their compact car a more lucrative buy. We also believe the car will be priced more than before, however, it will also sport more features.
