Drone showers petals, supporters ‘crown’ king Kejriwal in Northeast Delhi

With large numbers of unauthorised colonies and jhuggi areas rubbing shoulders with old villages, constituencies in Northeast Delhi are one of the party’s largest support bases. The AAP was confident of a win as Kejriwal exhorted the crowd to “call everyone they know” to vote for the AAP.

“Last year, we had resigned on February 14. A year later, we will be taking oath on February 15,” Kejriwal said at Karawal Nagar and Rohtas Nagar.

In Karawal Nagar, the AAP is concentrating on consolidating the Muslim votes in the area. During jan sabhas, Kejriwal and other AAP leaders repeatedly cautioned the public to not let the Congress “break your vote”.

“We are getting massive support from all communities and castes because of the misgovernance of the BJP in the last 20 years,” Karawal Nagar AAP candidate Kapil Mishra said.

In next door Mustafabad, with a “nearly 50- 50” Hindu- Muslim electorate too, the AAP had a “visible presence”.

The party flags and posters could be seen on shops and houses in the locality, which had previously returned Congress MLA Hasan Ahmed to the Assembly for two consecutive terms. “Our entire street had voted for Kejriwal last time, but then we voted for Modiji. This time we will vote for Kejriwal only,” Dayalpur resident Sarita said.

AAP draws EC’s notice to BJP ad

An advertisement put out by the BJP in newspapers on Thursday has sparked a new controversy. The advertisement attacked the AAP for not fulfilling its promises and warned residents of Delhi not to be fooled again. It also had a garlanded image of anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare. Kejriwal, in a series of Tweets, said, “AAP is forming govt in Delhi. Get ready to serve Delhi and to make it safe for women. I will pray for the well-being and health of Annaji.”

“Nathuram Godse killed Gandhiji on this day in 1948. BJP has killed Anna in its ad today. Shudn’t BJP apologise?” he tweeted.

“The ad goes against EC guidelines. The EC should take note and act appropriately,” senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh said.       ENS
