The reaction of the normally demure 27-year-old during the clash with tennis ace Tomas Berdych on Thursday caused an internet meltdown after the Australian Open semi-final.

And while some of it was light-hearted and supportive, many comments were vicious and derogatory after Murray’s 6-7 (6-8) 6-0 6-3 7-5 victory with some encouraging violence against her.

Ms Sears was seen appearing to mouth: “F****** have that. You Czech flash f***” or “Take that, you flash f***”.

Many of the offending messages came from the Czech Republic, where Berdych is one of the country’s biggest sporting stars.

Posting on the unofficial Facebook page, Pavel Kratochvil, from Prague, wrote: “Die. you s***.”

Karel Zelezny added: “F****** English B****! Such a f****** p****. You deserve someone to give you couple of slaps.”

And David Carbol added: “Little stupid cow. I’m czech.”

Other posts called Ms Sears a “bad sport s***”, a “silly stupid girl” and a “British f***”.

However, despite the backlash, many social media users have been supportive, with some branding her a “legend” and “hilarious”.

Among her supporters was German tennis player Andrea Petkovic who tweeted: “I love Kim Sears so much.”

Meanwhile, comedian Jack Whitehall commented: “Anyone else find Kim Sears incredibly sexy when she’s angry?”

And TV presenter Anita Rani said: “Kim Sears swears! So f****** what? Newsflash – women swear.”

After the match, Murray, 27, said comments were often made in the heat of the moment and that not too much should be read into the affair.

He added: “Yeah, in the heat of the moment you can say stuff that you regret. And, yeah, that’s it.”

Murray takes on Serbian Njovak Djokovic, the world No1, in tomorrow’s final and will be battling to claim his third Grand Slam title.
