MIRPURKHAS - Residents of Hameed Pura Colony protested against the death of a three-day-old infant allegedly due to doctor’s negligence, here the other day.
The protest was held at a local private hospital across MA Jinnah Road.
Protesters including Mesaq Ahmed Khan, victim’s father, told the media that his wife was under treatment of Dr Felomena, who was senior surgeon of Saint Teresa hospital Mirpurkhas, where the baby was born few days ago. The protesters alleged that the lady doctor was not present at that time of delivery while no alternative lady doctor was available either. As result they said that inexperienced staff of the hospital delivered the baby which developed complication in the case.
Mesaq submitted an application to register case of murder and negligence against, administrator Saint Treasa hospital Mirpurkhas Madam Agnes Haneef, Gynacologist Dr Felomena, child specialist Dr Siddique Nohani, accountant Naeem Chughtai and inexperienced staff. They further alleged that the hospital did not inform the family about the worsening condition of the baby adding that despite a child specialist Dr Siddique Nohani's call they did not respond till two hours. He further said that after a day, the hospital admin asked to shift the baby to Hyderabad and after two days in Hyderabad the infant died.
Mesaq said that his child died due to hospital negligence. He demanded the chief justice of Pakistan and Sindh chief minister to take action against the staff of the hospital. When the hospital was contacted, Naeem Chughtai, said that the administration will conduct an inquiry into the matter and action will be taken if negligence was involved.
Meanwhile, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board claimed to have demolished around 90 water hydrants and disconnected 116 water illegal water connections during the four days of ongoing operation against illegal water hydrants.
According to the KW&SB’s spokesperson, the officials of water board, with the cooperation of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, has demolished seven illegal water hydrants and disconnected 16 illegal water connections from the main supply line of KW&SB in various localities of the city including Baldia Town, North Nazimabad, Manghopir and other adjacent area during the fourth day of the operation on Friday.
The spokesperson said the KWSB team also lodged an FIR against the culprits involved in this practice. He added a team, led by Superintendent Engineer Asif Qadri, comprising water board staff raided the illegal hydrants with the help of Rangers personnel and seized the equipment from the operation sites.
This illegal hydrant had been causing water shortage in Qayyumabad, Akhtar Colony and DHA areas.
Another team of KW&SB, led by M Riaz, conducted operation in various localities of Gadap Town have demolished 8 illegal hydrants and arrested a man namely Sher Khan. The drive against illegal hydrants would be continued to ensure swift water supply in all the areas of the city, said the KWSB spokesperson.
