Sons of woman who died on D.C. train sue

WUSA-TV, Washington

WASHINGTON -- The family of a woman who died on a smoke-filled Metro train has filed a $50 million lawsuit against the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority for negligence and wrongful death.

Carol Glover's sons Marcus and Anthony Glover join about 80 people who have sued the transit authority. In a press conference Friday, Marcus Glover called his mother "a gift from God."

Glover, 61, was the only person who died Jan. 12 after train cars filled with smoke near a busy downtown Metro train station.

People were trapped for more than 30 minutes, and reports have uncovered a number of missteps and failures including radios that did not work.

Dozens of people suffered from smoke inhalation and were treated at area hospitals. The cause of the electrical malfunction that led to the smoke remains under investigation.
